Kasaragod: Abdul Basheer, reportedly from Saudi Arabia, has been living a life of an orphan since the last four years. He is lodged at the Snehalaya rehabilitation centre at Pavoor in Majeshwar from the past 7 months. The district administration is far from helping him.
Snehalaya authorities are in confusion on what to do with Basheer. On the directions of the district administration, he was admitted in Snehalaya on December 20, 2015. Since then, neither the officials nor the people representatives have inquired about him.
Basheer was arrested by Kasaragod police while he was found roaming suspiciously in September, 2012. He was sentenced to two years sentence by the court. He was released from Kannur prison on December 9 after two years of imprisonment. He had to spend an extra month in the prison as he no money to pay the fine.
He was admitted to Calicut mental hospital for one year from April 24, 2014 after he was reportedly looking like mentally ill patient in the prison.
Basheer had stated his father’s name as Sayyed Hussain Makkanakkas Arhathul Uloom from Saudi during police questioning. The officials contacted the concerned authorities but could obtain any information about his origin.
He was sent to Snehalaya as per orders from Kasargod district magistrate and deputy commissioner as no records were found on him when he was arrested.
According to Basheer, he is said to employed in a Saudi mosque before coming to Bangladesh and then to Kolkata with migrating workers. He was also in Hyderabad for a few years. He was caught by Kasaragod police when he was caught in 2012.
Basheer had also stated that his father was from Pakistan while his mother belonged to Burma. But the authorities are unable to help him due to limited information.
He is spending time with other members admitted at the rehabilitation centre and is longing to meet his parents and other family members. He is expecting to meet them at least this season of Ramzan.
