Home Minister inaugurates Coastal Security Police Station at Padubidri

Udupi: “From now on 20 percent posts will be reserved for women while recruiting the police constables” said Home Minister K J George during the inauguration of the Coastal Security Police Station at Padubidri on Wednesday February 12.

He said, “ Following the Mumbai blasts and the  Naxal menace in coastal areas,  the governments at the Centre and state  decided to give more importance to the coastal security police.”

“The recruitment process in the police force is taken up on priority bases. Around 8500 police personnel are recruited in the state with 20 percent post reserved for women.Earlier it was just 10%. The tribal community is given relaxations in concerning physical test to recruit them into the police force”, he added.

The Minister further informed that there are around 22000 posts vacant in the department of which around 600 posts of police sub inspectors are unfilled. Government is working on better recruitment policy. Though it might take some time, the procedure has been initiated, he said

Around  31new coastal security police station are expected to  be set up soon, he informed.  Though some disruptive forces have tried to flare up communal violence during the Congress rule, they will not succeed as long as people are with us, George said.

He assured that the government would  keep the Naxal activities under total check and added  that the government has released Rs 9  crores to revamp the ANF camps. There are 13 ANF camps in state, he said.

The Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Abhaychandra Jain said the government  is planning to commence operations at the Hejamdi-Kodi port  before election. The discussion regarding the same is going on with the Union Minister for Port over the fund release whereas the Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake said a coastal security police will be set up in Malpe at the cost of Rs 100 crore.

The Ministers also inaugurated Manapalla sport water adventure, Sports hostel for students from 5th to 8th standard which was built at a cost of Rs. 140 Lac and the Synthetic Track at Ajjarkad Stadium.
