Bantwal: The decision of an inter-religious couple to register their marriage created tense situation in B C Road on Monday morning.
It is said that a Muslim boy hailing from Badagakajekaru had come with his lover, a Hindu girl from Madikeri to Bantwal Sub-Registrar’s Office to get their marriage registered. However, when the news of the arrival of the couple spread, a particular organisation members gathered outside the Sub-Registrar’s office and sparked tension. Seeing the crowd, the boy is said to have fled the spot, while the girl was guarded by the Bantwal Town police. Bantwal Town Inspector Nanda Kumar, Rural Inspector Rakshith Gowda and others arrived at the spot.
Meanwhile, the girls brother who came down to B C Road, told the police that his sister and the boy like each other and the girl’s family has given consent for the marriage. With this, the girl left with her brother in a private taxi to Madikeri later with complete protection from the local police.
