Mangaluru: Health and Family Welfare Minister B Sreeramulu visited the Pachanady dumping yard on Friday, September 27, where 27 families have been affected by the flow of garbage from the landfill.

During his visit to the area, the affected family members surrounded Sreeramulu and expressed their grievances. They also urged the minister to release adequate compensation to all the 27 families affected by the garbage slip. They asked for action to be taken against the officials, whose negligence they blamed for the garbage slip.

After listening to the grievances the minister admitted that there has been a delay in taking up relief measures. He assured that he would speak to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa about releasing funds to compensate the affected residents.

Speaking to the reporters after his visit, he said that he will submit a report about the condition of the families to the CM and assured that appropriate measures will be taken to help the victims.

Earlier, while seeking compensation for the loss of a large portion of the cocunut, arecanut and other crops, the affected families demanded that the government permanently allot to them the flats in Kulashekara, where they are presently staying. Some of the Pachanady residents told the minister that they did not want to return to their old homes. The others, who wanted to return to Mandara, sought proper road connectivity and other basic infrastructure.

District Health Officer Dr M Ramakrishna Rao, Manglauru City Corporation Deputy Commissioner Gayatri Nayak, Mangaluru North MLA Dr Y  Bharath Shetty and others were present.
