Mangalore : The election to the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mangalore, slated to be held on September 12 is all likely to be postponed. The Karnataka High Court, on September 5, Thursday has stayed the election. The Court on Thursday took up for hearing a writ filed by Azeez Kudroli, JD(S) Corporator of Kudroli ward, questioning the reservation announced for the post. Azeez had contended that the government had violated the rotation rule and reserved the post of mayor for a woman candidate for the third time in the last six years.
On the other hand, Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde has said that arrangements have been made for the elections on September 12, but now that the HC has stayed the same, the corporation would proceed after duly seeking the advice of the state government.
