Mangalore: The Divisional Bench of the High Court in an interim judgment has reserved the post of Mangalore Mayor to a general category candidate, whereas the Deputy Mayor’s post will go to a general category lady candidate. Also as per the orders the state government will hold the Mayoral elections according to the reservations.

Earlier in March 2013, during the MCC elections the Congress had won by majority however in the stream of oppositions, the JD(S) corporator had moved the court challenging the reservation of the post of mayor for a lady candidate.
