Gusty winds, rains result in damages to public and private property

Karkala: Gusty winds accompanied by rains caused huge losses, damaging both public and private property at Karkala on Friday, July 1.

The CA Bank building and godown, food depot along with parts of village accountant’s office were partially damaged. Around 25 rubber trees, 5 jackfruit trees were uprooted in Ajekar church premises along with 400 areca trees in different areas. House and shop belonging to Manual D’souza and William D’souza was partly damaged and the metal sheets of farmer communication centre attached to agricultural market too were damaged.

Around 25 quintals of areca stored in the areca trade centre and the electronic hardware including computers in the co-operative bank premises too were drenched, as rain water gushed into those premises.

Tahsildar Raghvendra, ZP member Uday S. Kotian, TP member Harish Nayak, Co-opertaive Bank President Bhavani Shankar and Revenue inspector Manjunath visited various locations to assess the extent of damages. Initial reports indicated losses exceeding Rs 11 lakh.
