Mangalore : The Action Committee opposing the  Mangalore-Hassan-Mysore-Soloor gas pipeline project of the HPCL, took out a  protest march on January 7, Tuesday to pressurise the authorities to drop the project. The protest march taken out from Kaikamba to Kandavara Village office was participated by hundreds of villagers and leaders of the action committee.

Speaking on the occasion, Ibrahim, a leader of the Action Committee said there was a dire need to drop the project which would do more harm to the farmers of the area. They said they will give no scope for the laying of the pipeline and added they would launch a severe protest if their demand was not fulfilled.

Ibrahim also pointed out that it was due to the ignorance of farmers of the region that they had let land for a diesel pipeline in the same area around 12 years ago. They were then given a paltry compensation for the same, he said.

Several including BM Bhat, CPI(M) leader and progressive farmer Rajesh Naik spoke on the occasion.

The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Tahsildar Premalatha highlighting their demand.
