Mangaluru: Mayor Harinath said on Tuesday that power cut is one of the main reasons for irregular supply of water.

Answering to a media query he said, “We are not able to pump the water from the dam because of power cuts, then how can we supply it? An additional 38 vehicles are deployed to supply drinking water. We are supplying water to the remote areas also.”
Commenting on bringing water from Lakya dam he said that, MCC can get 0.5 MGD water from the dam.
“We have still not acquired permission from the government as Kuduremukh is a national park. If the concerned officials try their level best, it can be done within a day,” he said.
MCC Commissioner Dr H N Gopalkrishna said, “At present KIOCL is using 2 MGD of water from Lakya dam. We have requested for additional 3 MGD water from the same. A written request letter is submitted to the KIOCL along with the water crisis details. KIOCL officials have responded positively for our call.”
“We have prepared a draft seeking permission from the government to fetch water from the dam. Even though High Tension (HT) power supply is stopped at KIOCL, they still have Low Tension (LT) power lines. So we would be using LT pumpsets to pump the water from the dam. From Lakya dam, the water will be supplied to KIOCL Panambur. From there it will be moved to MCC pumphouse,” he added.
Previously a team led by Mayor Harinath visited Lakya dam and submitted a request letter to KIOCL officials to draw water from the dam as Mangaluru is facing severe water crisis.
