Mangalore: Another case of gold smuggling has come to light, wherein a man from Kasargod tried to smuggle half kg gold mixed with coffee powder, he was arrested on Thursday December 5.
The accused has been identified as Mohammed Ashraf, who hails from Karsargod and landed at Mangalore airport from Dubai. It is speculated that he was carrying gold worth 16 lacs.
Various other pioneering attempts have been made to smuggle gold, in which obscuring gold in coffee powder is witnessed for the first time.
Even though extreme measures are taken to curb the smuggling of gold, the efforts have been in vain, the rise in smuggling is creating immense tension as well as pressure on the custom officials.
Customs officials later produced the accused in the court.
