Girl struck down by car succumbs to injuries

Mangaluru: Nikitha Cutinha, a 16-year-old student of St. Aloysius PU College, Mangalore, breathed her last at 9.45 am on April 9 at AJ Hospital.

Nikitha, daughter of Noreen Crasta and Jerome Cutinha, was by the side of the road waiting for a bus near the Derebail church on March 25 when she was struck down by a speeding car. Nikitha sustained severe head injuries including haemorraging and severe bleeding. She was promptly taken to AJ hospital by a passerby, where she was operated on by neuro surgeons.

She, however, remained in a critical state and had been battling for her life at the hospital till finally succumbing this morning.

The driver of the car that struck the girl is a resident of Bengaluru, Sharmila. Reckless driving is said to be the cause of the accident.
