Mangalore: A gas cylinder explosion at the basement of Elite Apartment Kadri, at Kambla claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl and left several others injured on Friday April 4.

The deceased has been identified as Bharathi, who succumbed to severe burns sustained due to a gas cylinder explosion at their residence.

Bharathi‘s father 40-year-old Shivananda, her mother 35-year-old Bhagaya and her brother 14-year-old Anjikya were also gruesomely injured. The three were admitted at a local hospital, they are under observation and their condition is said to be critical.

It is learnt that the explosion was due to a gas leakage that took place in the early hour of the morning. Shivananda who was a watchman at the Elite residential apartments, he stayed on the upper floor while his family lived in a room on the ground floor.

Reportedly Shivananda sensed a Gas smell in the house, when he swtiched on the light an explosion took place.
