Mangalore: Well-known freedom-fighter, eminent patriot and a former MLA 93-year-old Dr Sanjeevanath Aikala passed away at his Markunja home in Karnad near Mulki on Thursday February 6. He is survived by his two sons and daughter.
During the freedom struggle in 1936, Sanjeevanath Aikala joined the freedom movement, after which he joined Jayaprakash Narayan’s Socialist Party and in the year 1961 he became an MLA representing the party. He was also a member of Lions Club and Beltangady Nagarika Hitharakshana Samiti.
Aikala was born in 1921 in the Aikala Bhava family. He pursued his education at Niddodi Sathyanaryana Higher Primary School, and then at Mulky Government Model High School.
He will be cremated at the Mulky Hindu Crematorium on Friday February 7.
