Mangalore : Fr Stanislaus R. Pereira, well-known as Fr Stanly Pereira, a priest of the Diocese of Mangalore, expired on August 6, Tuesday morning. He was 88. He breathed his last at the Little Sisters of the Poor, Home for the Aged at Bajjodi. Fr Stanly Pereira had served as priest for six decades.
Hailing from Kemmannu Parish, Fr Pereira was born on November 13, 1925. He had his priestly education at St Joseph’s Seminary Mangalore and was ordained Priest of Mangalore Diocese in April 1953.
Fr Pereira had served as Assistant Parish Priest at Karkala, Derebail, Casia and Bantwal Churches. He was also the Founder Parish Priest of Pakshikere where he had served for 11 years. He had further served as Parish Priest of Bendore, Udyavar and Kalianpur-Milagres Churches and had voluntarily retired from priestly ministry in 1994 on health grounds.
Fr Stanislaus R. Pereira was a courageous priest, learned thinker and well-known preacher. He was the founder
spiritual guide of Catholic Sabha of the Diocese of Mangalore and was instrumental in starting the Deepika High School in Modankap.
Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore and Rev. Msgr Denis Prabhu, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Mangalore have condoled the death of Fr Pereira.
His funeral Mass would be held at St Jude Thaddaeus Church, Pakshikere at 10 a.m. on August 7, Wednesday. The mortal remains would be interred at Pakshikere church cemetery.
