Fr Denis Castelino’s book ‘Pallam ani Mullam’ released

Mangalore : A Konkani book  entitled ‘Pallam ani Mullam’ (Roots and Base) authored by well-known writer Fr Denis Castelino  was released  at a function held at Milagres Church Hall in Mangalore on November 1, Friday. Fr Mark Walder, former editor of Raknno released the book. The function was organised by Kittall.com and Evershine Prakashan. The maiden book by Fr Castelino has six Konkani essays.

 

Speaking after releasing the book, Fr. Mark Walder  said the  book would touch the hearts of the readers.A writer  should try to reflect the society and the sufferings of the poor, he said  and hoped Konkani literature would scale greater heights through rich contributions from  writers like Fr Castelino.

Melwyn Rodrigues, Sahitya Academy Award winning writer who was the chief guest of the occasion, said ‘Pallam ani Mullam’ is a very inspiring book that will certainly attract readers. It is based on the life experiences of the author, he said.

Continuing, he said publishing houses  should not end their responsibility merely by publishing books, but should instead ensure that the books reached the discerning readers.

Entrepreneur and Community leader Rohan Monteiro who is the Managing Director of Rohan Corporation, was also present as a chief guest. Fr Wilson D’Souza, Fr Valerian D’Souza, Fr John Fernandes and Fr Francis Gomes were among others present on the occasion.

H M Pernal, Editor  of Kittall.com  and Evershine Publications, spoke about the publishers.

Titus Noronha welcomed the gathering.  Flora Castelino compered the programme.

 

About the Author : Fr Denis Castelino who has served as  Assistant Parish Priest  and Parish Priest at Bantwal, Attur, Alangar, Kalmady and other places, is presently leading a retired life at Vianney Home, senior priests home at Fr Muller Hospital, Mangalore. His first article which was in English was published  in 1974. Thereafter several of his articles have appeared in Raknno. He has  authored several articles on varied topics including dowry problem, superstitions, mental health and spirituality.

He even continued his writing after retirement. His  essay “My father Raymond Castelino” even won the Kittall Best Essay Award for the year 2012.
