Foundation stone for development works in city to be laid on July 24

Mangaluru: Mayor K Harinath said on Wednesday, that foundation stone for various projects and development works will be laid by Urban Development minister Roshan Baig and with district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai on Sunday, July 24.

Speaking at a press meet at Mangaluru City Corporation office, Harinath said that the obstacles in utilizing the premier fund are cleared now. Footpaths, drains and roads will be developed at places like Kankanady, Jyothi, Mallikatte, KSRTC and Bunts hostel among others.

“The ministers will lay the foundation stone on July 24 for the dining hall in Mangaluru Town Hall premises at the cost of Rs 99.85 lakh, market at Kavoor and Alake at Rs 1 crore respectively and development of Kavoor junction at Rs 1.5 crore along with a public toilet at Rs 12 lakh. They will also inaugurate a night shelter for homeless at Bunder constructed at the cost of Rs 99.80 lakh on Sunday,” he said.

“The construction of Thumbe dam which is in its final stages will be completed only after acquiring the land. A meeting between the farmers and the administration will be convened soon. 53 acres of land will be acquired only after taking the farmers into confidence,” he added.

Health committee chairman of MCC, Kavitha Sanil informed that as many as 34 toilets will be constructed at various junctions in Mangaluru city.

“There are about 339 houses lacking toilets according to a survey in 2015. Those houses without toilets can submit the applications before August 13. All houses will be given grants for the construction of toilets. All 60 wards under MCC will be announced as ‘open defecation free’ on August 15.
