Foundation Day celebration brings in mid-day meals to University College students

Mangaluru: The Foundation Day of Mangaluru University in Hampankatta saw the presence of the member of the Parliament and former Union Minister and an ex- student of this college, M Veerappa Moily at an event organised by the University authorities. The event was also used to inaugurate mid-day meals scheme for the benefit of these students.

The Principal of the college, Dr. M A Udaykumar said that there has been many development activities for the students. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. K Byrappa had made necessary arrangements for media students to have their own studio and cameras. After the mid-day meal scheme was proposed to be launched in the college campus, he immediately gave green signal for it.

“While in college, most of my time was spent in the library. I visited the place today after a long time and took a stroll down memory lane. The library must soon be digitized and old students will fund half of the expenses incurred”, Moily said.

Prof. K Byrappa presided over the program and spoke a few words about the University’s history and future. “The University college will complete 150 years in 2018. On this account, the college authorities have planned to conduct year long activities in the college like sports, quiz, dance competitions and other extra-curricular activities. We have also made it a point that we form a committee to organize these events on account of this celebration.”

The mid-day meals initiative was launched by former Minister K Abhayachandra Jain symbolically by presenting fruits to the college student representatives. He said that he will contribute Rs 25,000 for this cause. Prof. Byrappa also extended his support for this initiative and contributed the same amount from his side.
