Karwar: Woman cheated by travel agent is on her way back home from Saudi Arabia after Karwar Deputy commissioner acted on her What’s app complaint and initiated action to rescue her from the clutches of her employers abroad.

Case history:
A woman named Poornima Rajendra Bandekar, mother of two daughters from Shirawada Madiwalawada in Karwar was running a beauty parlour. A travel agent from Mumbai named Sameer contacted Poornima and assured her of a beautician’s job in Dubai and asked her to come to New Delhi on May 24.
When she landed in Dubai, she was asked to go to Saudi Arabia where she was denied the beautician’s job. She tried to convince her employers to release her but was harassed and asked to clean toilets instead. Since she didn’t understand English, it became very difficult for her to explain her problem to her employers abroad. Unable to bear the hardship she finally managed to send a WhatsApp message to Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner to rescue and help her return home.
Responding to her complaint DC of Uttara Kannada SS Nakul instructed the district administration to register a complaint based on the statement given by the victim. The DC then contacted the residential commissioner in the foreign affairs department who in turn got in touch with the Indian embassy officials in Saudi Arabia result of which she is on her way home now.
WhataApp message worked wonders
Former DC of Karwar Ujwal Kumar Ghosh had started WhatsApp message service where common people could interact with the top district administration officials in the district administration. The present DC continued that service which had drawn wide appreciation from general public which ultimately helped in the rescue operations of Poornima.
Poornima landed in Mumbai on September 26 night and will reach her home town Shirawada in Karwar by train on September 28 morning.
Poornima who dreamt of good livelihood by working abroad was totally disappointed by the turn of events. The efforts of DC SS Nakul and the foreign affairs officials are laudable as they managed to rescue Poornima and succeeded in bringing her back home.
When Poornima reunites with her family on September 28, her joy will have no bounds for sure.
