Mangaluru: Extending support on behalf of the public, Forum for Justice, Mangaluru has urged the district administration to strictly enforce the January 12 notification and book cases against those auto rickshaw drivers who are violating the RTA order.
Speaking to the presspersons here on Thursday, Dayanath Kotian, president of the forum questioned the ‘attitude’ of the rickshaw drivers. “If the rickshaw drivers refused to collect reduce fares, we will start a SMS campaign to reduce minimum fares to Rs 18 and not Rs 20”, he said.
Only few sections of the society cannot enjoy the benefits from the reduction of fuel prices by government. It should reach all citizens. the attitude of the rickshaw drivers is unfortunate”, he told the media.
At the same time, the forum said the behaviour of elected representatives in mediating between the operators and the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has been amusing. It threatened to launch an agitation and picket the residences of people’s representatives if the operators are not reined in by the district administration.
He pointed out that autorickshaw operators would not suffer any loss if they collect Rs. 20 minimum fare and Rs. 13 per km fare as the reduced fare is bound to attract more passengers.
