Mangaluru: Former MLC and Rajyotsava awardee Octavia Albuquerque passed away on Wednesday, March 9.

Octavia(92), a social-activist, was married to Late Cyril Albuquerque, son of former deputy collector Felix Pai Albuquerque. A Rajyotsava awardee herself, she was known for her philanthropic activities. A staunch Gandhian, she was the founder of Cheshire Home Mangaluru. The Albuquerques were one of the leading business families of Mangalore producing the famous Albuquerque tiles. 

Being a memeber of Congress Party she was elected to State Legislative Council from 1970 to 1972.

The last rites will be held at Rosario Cathedral on Thursday, March 10 at 4 pm.
