Mangalore : For the first time in the history of the New Mangalore Port, three container vessels called on the Port on a single day on July 8, Monday. The three vessels namely M V Oel Kutch, M V Noble Breeze and main line vessel M V Kota Nebula had around 2000 containers.


Of the three the main line container vessel MV Kota Nebula was from East Africa(Port Matwara) of M/s Pacific International Lines. This is the fourth mainline vessel calling on the port during the current year and the 35th mainline visiting the port so far.
A press release from NMPT said that the port has so far during the year 2013-14 handled 13,595 TEUs of containerized cargo as against 13,073 TEUs handled during the corresponding period of last year, thereby registering a growth of 4 per cent.
Dr P Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT attributes the increase in the number of container vessels and traffic to pro-active business initiatives of NMPT.
