Floods wreak havoc in Bantwal, 2 meet watery grave

Bantwal : The heavy rains coupled with the release of water from the dams at Shambhur, Sarapady and Belthangady resulted in Netravathi river flowing above danger marks leading to unprecedented floods in Bantwal taluk. Residents say they have not seen such worse floods in the past one and a half decade.

Two youngsters were washed away in flood waters in Kariangala while two others were rescued. Hundreds of houses have been affected by floods while over 30 houses have been totally submerged.

Home Guards, fire service personnel and the police personnel have been working round the clock to shift people to safer places. Brahmarakootlu, Farangipete and other low lying areas have been badly affected. Authorities have opened Ganji Kendras in Bantwal and Farangipete.

Even the residence of senior Congress leader Janaradhan Poojari at Bastipadpu was affected by floods. His wife and grand children who were at home were shifted by fire service personnel on Thursday morning.

Bantwal MLA Ramanatha Rai, SP Abhishek Goel, Additional DC Dayanand, Bantwal Tahsildar  Malleswami and others were at the spot and helped in supervising the rescue efforts.
