Kasaragod: In a heart rending incident, five young students drowned in a river near Payyaur in Kannur district today while they into the river to take bath.

Premilinary reports suggest that all the five students belonged to the same family.

The deceased have been identified as Orija (13) Manik (13), Ayal (7) Sabaan (7) and Akhil (5).

Though one student survived, the rest of them drowned in their attempt to save one another from drowning.

The incident took place at around 4 pm this evening. The people nearby after hearing the cries rushed immediately to the spot but could not rescue the young children. However, their bodies were retrieved immediately.

The bodies are now kept in Pariyaram Medical college hospital.
