Mangaluru: The coveted post of Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor went to senior Congress leader Harinath Jogi.
The post of the Mayor was reserved for general category and with this Harinath managed to get the ornamental position with clear majority.

Five time Corproator and former chief whip of Congress in the MCC, Harinath Jogi was pitched by Congress against BJP’s Roopa D Bangera. However, Harinath managed to bag 36 votes (35 Congress corporators and MLA J R Lobo voted for him) out of 60 votes in the MCC.

As far as Deputy Mayor’s position is concerned, BJP’s Sumithra has been chosen unopposed.

The Deputy Mayor’s post was reserved for the Scheduled Tribe candidates and since the Congress did not have a ST candidate, the post fell into the booty of the BJP.

Meanwhile members for the Standing Committees were appointed

Shailaja, Appi, Naveenchandra, Praveenchandra Alva, Sumayya,Vasudha Kulai, Surendra have been appointed to Tax and Finance Committee.

Urban Development and Planning will have Lacelot Pinto, Ashok Shetty, Rathikala, Vijay Kumar, K Madhukiran, Naven D’Souza, Purushotham Chitrapura

Accounts Committee will have Purnima, Raghuveer, K zubeida, B Prakash,Akhila Alva, Kavitha, Basheer Ahmed.

Standing Committee for Health will have Latha Salian, Rajnish, Nagaveni, Premananda Shetty, Rajesh, Deepak Poojary and Kavitha Sanil.

As per sources there are possibilities of Appi heading the standing committee for Ta and Finance, Lancelot Pinto will head the standing Committee for Urban Development and Planning, Basheer Ahmed will head Accounts committee and Kavitha Sanil will head Health Committee.
