The other team members Saif from Mumbai and Naushad from Uppala managed to escape. On a reliable tip off, Kasaragod city police laid a trap while accused were travelling in two separate cars on Anebagilu road. The accused managed to obtain account numbers, credit card numbers and PIN details from a “secret” centre in US and then created duplicate cards using swipe machines to buy jewellery and other expensive articles from different places.
Najeeb is related to Newaman, earlier arrested in a Pune ATM card heist of similar nature. It is gathered during interrogation that an Uttar Pradesh resident is behind the leaking of the vital online information to all accused. Naushad who escaped was involved in a similar offence earlier and had served a jail sentence in Dubai after cheating people to the tune of Rs 30 Lakh.
It is also known now that the accused had cheated fuel bunks and other outlets with huge amounts. The 50 percent of the amount earned by cheating used to reach the accused UP resident through Saif based in Mumbai, according to the nabbed miscreants.
