Udupi: Urban development and district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said on Saturday that, a fisheries harbour will come up soon in Hejamady and an amount of Rs 100 crore has been kept for the purpose in the recent state budget.
“The blue print for constructing a breakwater on the lines of the new harbour project has already been prepared by the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery and the work will start after the monsoon,” he said.
After visiting Hejamady, Sorake said, “The project report for the harbour will be sent to the central government and the project cost will be shared by both the central and state governments at a ratio of 75:25. Another Rs 30 crore has been set aside in the state budget for the development of fisheries roads in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
A sum of Rs 275 crore will be spent for constructing a permanent wall for controlling sea-erosion in coastal areas.
