Mangalore: Spread over 7.35 acres of land, located in the foot of Kanthavara forest in between Moodabidri and Karkala on National highway 13, having recorded 113 species till date, and is the first private owned butterfly park in Karnataka, “Sammilan Shettys Butterfly park” will be inaugurated on 18th of August 2013.
Addressing the reporters, in the press meet held in the press club of Mangalore, the curator of the park Sammilan Shetty said that the park along with its website will be inaugurated by Director of program’s of Bombay Natural History Society(BNHS), Shri Isaac Kehimkar. The program will be presided over by Deputy Director of BNHS Dr. Shubhalaxmi Vaylure and the chief guests of the function will be Minister for youth services,Shri. Abhayachandra Jain, MP of Mangalore constituency, Shri. Nalin Kumar Kateel, member of Karnataka wildlife board, Dr. NA Madhyastha and Director of research and development, Nitte University, Dr. Arunachalam kumar.
The program will begin at 9:00 AM and after the inauguration the park will be open to the visitors on every Sunday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
About the park:
Situated in the Belvai village, the park being amidst western ghat’s hosts more than 100 species of butterflies, including some of the endemic and most dazzling butterflies of the world. The major attractions include the Malabar Banded peacock, Southern Bird wing, Malabar Rose and many more. Rare beauties like Tamil Oakblue and Banded royal have been recorded here.
