Karkala : A fire mishap in  the Government Primary School at Bajagoli Mudaru Rameruguttu on March 11, Tuesday caused tense moments,. But a major casualty was averted due to the timely action of the local people as well as fire service personnel.

The incident took place at round 10.15 am. The fire was first noticed in the pipe connecting the LPG cylinder. In a matter of no time fire engulfed the kitchen of the school. Locals who rushed to the spot, sent the children out and the fire service personnel extinguished the fire. The kitchen walls of the school have now developed  cracks following the mishap.

This incident has underlined the need for sufficient precautionary measures  at the kitchens of the schools which prepare mid day meals for the students. Fire Services Officer Naveen said  the school authorities must also ensure that the  connecting pipes to the LPG cylinders must be changed regularly.
