Moodbidri: The festival of lights ‘Alvas Deepavali-2014’ was celebrated showcasing cultural grandeur at the Vidyagiri Alvas Nudisiri campus on Wednesday.

Alvas institution director Dr M Mohan Alva gave an introductory speech on the occasion. Trustees Ex MLA Amarnath Shetty, Jayashree Amarnath Shetty, Vivek Alva were present.

Along with Tulsi Pooja, Gopooja, Baleendra Pooja, Laxmi Pooja and equipments used by farmers were blessed on the occasion.

Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Banjara, Maharashtra Lavani, Punjabi Bhangra, West Bengal’s Purulia lion dance, Manipuri Stick dance, Srilanka Candiyan dance, Badaguthittu Yakshagana, Dollu Kunitha, Kerala Chende, tiger dance, Kangilu, Kalladka keelu gombe were the items presented in the cultural programme organised.

533 artists, 17 various cultural programmes were performed for 5 hours.

20,000 students along with thousands of spectators from the area were present for the programme.
