Moodbidri : In an incident reported from Moodbidri on August 13, Tuesday, a thief met a tragic end in his attempt to avoid getting caught. The man from Polali who worked as a labourer had jumped off a commercial complex near the town market in the early hours of August 13, Tuesday when someone who noticed him trying to break open a coin phone box, began to chase him.
Sources said the deceased identified as Vijay (35), who worked as a daily wage labourer in Moodbidri, had been to the building as early as 4 am and tried to open the coin phone box when a shopkeeper who was nearby woke up and began to chase him. Vijay, it is learnt, had tried to jump from the building to a nearby tree, but tragically fell on the ground. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he breathed his last there.
It is learnt, he was an alcoholic and hardly visited his house at Guddeyangady.
Moodbidri police have registered a case.
