Dakshina Kannada/Udupi: With the water sources drying up fast this summer, it is not just the pots at home that are turning empty, even temples in the region have been hit by scarcity of water to the extent that three temples of the undivided Dakshina Kannada district have been left in lurch specifically.
While richest temple of the state-Kukke Subramanya has decided to stop bottled ‘Theertha’ prasadam, Sri Krishna Temple of Udupi and Durgaparameshwari temple in Kateel have started using tanker water for everyday usage.
As per sources, the abundant Kumaradhara has been flowing below normal levels and the water available as of now is just enough for two more weeks.
The well inside the temple-‘theertha bavi’ is drying up leaving the temple administration in panic-stricken state. As of now all the hotels, choultries etc are being provided with water with available resources.
Kateel Durgaparameshwari temple in Mangaluru taluk, which is built over the Nandini river has water enough only for regular usage and that if there is large gathering they have to depend on tanker water.
The situation is the same in the Sri Krishna temple in Udupi as well and it has been depending on tanker water supply since January itself, starting with three tankers a day.
At the Mookambika Temple in Kollur, there is sufficient water in one well according to the temple authorities. The Sauparnika river has never dried up and this time too, it has water, they said.
