Mangalore: In a tragic incident, a woman and a youngster drowned at Mogaveerpatna beach in Ullal here on Wednesday May 21, while another three, who were pulledinto the sea by the waves were rescued.











The deceased were identified as 60-year-old Mehrunnisa, a resident of Madhavaram in Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, and 14-year-old Mushtaque. His body however, is not yet found. It is assumed that he might have drowned.
The rescued were 30-year-old Ghausunnisa, 34-year-old Shakila Banu and 20-year-old Munni. Munni was discharged from hospital after first aid while the other two have been admitted.
Reportedly 25 persons from four families hailing from Andhra’s Kadapa district came in three vehicles to visit Ullal Dargah. After offering prayers at the Dargah, they went to the beach at Mogaveerpatna. While they were near the water, a huge wave swept over them and pulled in five people.
When the other members of the group raised the alarm, the locals rushed to their aid on hearing thier howls, and succeeded in rescuing three of the five members. Along with the locals, Aaron, an Australian, also rushed to help.
Of the four persons brought to safety, Mehrunnisa who was in a critical condition failed to respond to treatment and breathed her last. Search for Mushtaque is still on.
Health minister and MLA of Ullal U T Khadar visited the spot.
