Mangaluru: People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Dakshina Kannada on Thursday demanded the arrest of two ‘unnamed’ lawyers, who have been allegedly involved in fabricating a divorce decree on June 10, 2005 in case no. MC. No. 177/04. The forged decree was then produced before the court on January 19, 2009 to lay claim to the estate of the Late Everest Pereira as his legal heirs.
Activist David D’Souza told reporters here in the city that the police are hand in glove with the lawyers. “The police have only managed to arrest Gladys Almeida. While, the two lawyers, the main accused in fabricating and producing the fake divorce decree to the court are still out. And, the police are not taking them for custodial interrogation”, he said.
The press note, circulated by PUCL, states that Asha Nayak and M.P Noronha are involved in a case connected to the divorce decree and Everest Pereira’s assets. “It is necessary that both Asha Nayak and M.P Noronha have to be interrogated in custody”, the note adds.
Earlier this month, the police arrested Gladys Almeida, the ‘second wife’ of Everest Pereira. After recording her statements recently, the court remanded her to judicial custody. As of now, the matter is before the local court.
