Mangalore : Noted philanthropist Eric Alfred Correa has been chosen for the Pingara Kannada Rajyotsava Award-2013 given by the Pingara Weekly. The Award presentation ceremony will be held at Town Hall here on November 26.
Informing this to reporters here, Roy Castelino, Convenor of the Award Selection Committee said Correa was chosen for the Award in recognition of his service to the society. He has already built 98 houses for the poor. Of the 20 applicants, Correa was chosen for the Award, Castelino said.
Castelino said Alfred Correa who has a firm which rents generators also is engaged in the philanthropic work of purchasing lands, building houses and donating it to poor, irrespective of caste, creed or religion. Sauharda Nagar I and II stand testimony to his service initiatives. He has even donated 31 houses to the poor in Puttige village.
The selection panel comprised of Mangalore Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Roy Castelino, Harikrishna Punaroor, Fr William Menezes, Srikar Prabhu, Rohan Monteiro, C G Pinto, Dr B G Suvarna, Elias Fernandes, Ramakrishna R and Elroy Kiran Crasta.
