Mangaluru: Encounter Specialist Dr Ravikanthe Gowda, a 2005 IPS cadre officer, assumed charge as the Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada here on Monday, January 29, following the transfer of CH Sudeer Kumar Reddy.

Additional SP V J Sajeeth who was in-charge SP, handed over the charge to SP Ravikanthe Gowda.

After assuming the office, speaking to media, Ravikanthe Gowda said that he will give prominence to maintain law and order in the district, through people friendly policing system.

“Along with the co-operation of police officers, I will create a good relationship with people through people-friendly policing system”, he added.

The SP also said that “Dakshina Kannada is very sensitive district. “After studying the problems of the district, I will work with my experience and guidance from the senior officers. Though the place of work has changed, but the ‘framework’ of police duty will remain the same. Providing a peaceful environment to the general pubic is the duty of the police,” he said.

On a question that how will the provocative and derogatory comments on social media be controlled, thr SP said, “we should support healthy discussion on social media. Already there is a ‘Social Media Monitoring Unit’ in the district to address the issue. Such message will be taken up seriously, ” he said.

The SP also urged that the netizens should use the social media to maintain peace and harmony and assured that he will continue the initiatives taken by his predecessors.

The SP also said that he has come to district with keen interest to serve people and is proud to work in Dakshina Kannada.

He also said that when he was the Belgavi SP, he had translated the Parade Commands from Hindi to Kannada and now it is before the ADG of administration. Already one meeting have been done and hope it will be approved in the next meeting, he said.

Dr Ravikanthe Gowda started his service from Nanjangudu in 1999 as DySP and served as ACP Hubli Dharwad, DCP Crime Bengaluru Urban, SP Security State Intelligence, SP of Law and Order Mysore City, ACP Central Bengaluru City, Superintendent of Belgavi.
