Mangalore :   A shocking incident wherein a 69 year old woman was allegedly raped and robbed by a 24 year old youth has been reported from Saripalla in the outskirts of Mangalore on July 14, Sunday night.

The youth named Nagesh (24) of Chintamani in Chikkaballapur was trapped by locals on July 15, Monday morning and handed over to the police. He was subsequently arrested.

Sources said Nagesh who worked in the construction site close by the elderly woman’s house where her daughter was constructing a house, had all of a sudden barged into the woman’s house on Sunday night when she was alone. He then reportedly raped her and then escaped with her jewels.

Mangalore Rural police are investigating.
