Mangaluru: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Monday protested for failing to monitor and tackle pollution created by coke and sulphar units of the Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Limited.

The federation, which has been protesting against the alleged air and water pollution around the plant, especially in Jokatte and surrounding areas, pasted posters on the compound wall of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board’s city office.

The posters stated that the board was protecting the plant and failed to act on the matter of pollution. The DYFI plans to intensify their protest, if the board fails to tackle pollution by MRPL.

Meanwhile, the board issued a show-cause notice to the petrochemical giant asking it why action should not be initiated for its failure to contain pollution.
