Mangalore: Former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda has taken strong exception to the moves of the Congress government in the state to drop several schemes implemented by the erstwhile BJP government.
Speaking to reporters at the district BJP office on May 24, Friday, Gowda said the Congress was trying to resort to politics of vengeance in the state and added this was not in the best interests of the state.
Referring to the state governments statement regarding dropping the resolution regarding formation of new taluks passed by the erstwhile government, Gowda said the BJP government had made the move considering the longstanding demands of the people and heeding to the advice of experts. The government which cites paucity of funds for constitution of new taluks, has flagged off projects worth Rs 4000 crores on the first day of the Chief Minister assuming charge. Given this situation, the government should not revoke the decision regarding taluk formation, DVS appealed.
DVS was also critical of the Congress government for its plans to implement the Cow Slaughter Prevention Bill of 1964. He said any moves to revoke the Bill envisaged by the erstwhile government would hurt the sentiments of majority Hindus.
On the cheap liquor proposal, Gowda said it only gave room for suspicion if the government had entered into agreement with some liquor lords.
On the CMs statement of bringing the Gokarna and Udupi Mutts under government control, Gowda urged the government to pay heed to the sentiments of the devotees before taking any decision lest the people may take to the streets.
He was also critical of Home Minister KJ Georges statement that Goonda Act would be invoked on those resorting to moral policing. He said it was welcome if the government makes such a move to curb crime but resorting to politics of hatred will not be tolerated.
He urged the Congress government to give top priority towards solving the present water crisis facing several parts of the state instead of worrying about other aspects.
District BJP President Padmanabha Kottari, Nitin Kumar, former president of Fisheries Development Corporation, Pushpalatha Gatti, District BJP Vice President, Rajgopal Rai, Media Spokesperson were also present.
