Mangaluru: In an instance of drunken driving, two persons were injured in an accident when a car crashed into an auto rickshaw near Kankanady on Wednesday afternoon.

The auto rickshaw driver Narendra Kottary (40) and passenger Sujal are the injured. Kottary, a resident of Maryhill is said to be seriously injured. Roopesh, the person driving the car was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

According to eye witnesses, the speeding car on its way from Jeppu collided against the rickshaw. The rickshaw overturned due to the impact damaging its front portion. The car driver pulled the hand-brakes to stop and escaped unscathed. The injured were shifted to nearby private hospital.

The driver was beaten by the public and in return he tried to retaliate assaulting a few members in the public. He later managed to escape.

It is said that the public’s anger increased when a female traffic police visited the accident spot and slipped away quietly.
