Kasargod: A drugs racket targeted at school students is quite active in Kasargod town. Just a few days ago, police had unearthed a racket of selling pen cigarettes to students. Now, in another case, police have seized intoxicants laced confectionaries from a shop near a school.

Police have seized 17 packets having 160 toffees in some wholesale distribution outlets in the old bus stand area and from a petty shop in a school area. A case has been registered.
School officials had informed the police on suspicion after a student distributed the toffees to his classmates on account of his birthday. The teachers it is learnt tasted the chocolates and had found a difference in taste. Later, the nearby shops were raided and a police team led by Circle Inspector V Balakrishnan seized the products.
Sources said the toffees were available in lime, rose, strawberry and betel leaf flavour and the packs had My Darling Barbie mentioned on them.
The seized products have been sent to forensic lab for examination, police said. Further, action will be taken on the basis of the lab reports, police informed.
