Drugs in chocolate; 9 children fall ill

Kasaragod : In a shocking development, at least three cases of drugs mixed with chocolates have been reported  in the last two week period in Kasargod.  In a latest case,  nine students of a school in the town fell ill after  consuming chocolates mixed with drugs on Tuesday, March 4.

Nine affected children were admitted to the general hospital in the city. The chocolates were reportedly distributed during the birthday celebration of one of their classmates. The children complained of stomach pain and vomited soon after consuming them and they had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The chocolates were bought from a bakery near the city bus stand. The packets are labeled as Cool Zone and there are no markings of date, price and date of expiry on them. There is no mention of the name or place of manufacturers.

After the incident was reported the police and the health officials took action and raided the bakeries and wholesale dealers around the city. They have taken samples of the chocolates to the laboratory at Kozhikode for necessary tests.
