Mangalore : The National Highway might have been upgraded into a four-lane. But that does not mean that the roads are free from potholes which are a virtual nightmare. In one instance, a huge crater can be noticed on the NH 66 near the Deepak Petrol Bunk at Baikampady. The general public sensing danger from this mighty crater, have tried to caution motorists by planting plantain and papaya trees here.
There were even instances of a couple of motorists who were passing this way on Thursday morning, taken by surprise on seeing the plants that had appeared overnight at the spot. The road here is in totally disarray, thanks to the goods lorries which have virtually plundered the road. The potholes are large enough for the tyres of the two-wheelers as well as four-wheelers to get submerged. There has been an increasing demand from the public, particularly motorists to free the highway of the potholes. Will the pleas reach the authorities?
