DK district administration gears up for election

Mangalore march 22 : Quick on the heels of the declaration of the date for the State Assembly Election, the DakshinaKannada district administration has geared up for the smooth conduct of the same.

 

 

Speaking to reporters, at his office Deputy Commissioner N Prakash said that April 17 wouldbe the last date to file nomination and scrutiny of the nominations would be held the next day. April 20 will be the last date for withdrawing the nomination for the election to be conductedon May 5 from 8 am to 5 pm, he added. Counting will be held on May 8.

The DC said that as the Election had already been declared the model code of conduct is inforce until May 11. He requested all the parties to cooperate in this regard.

As per the updated voters’ list, the district has a total of 14,67,659 voters including 7,25,162male voters and 7,36,497 female voters. There will be 1627 polling booths in the district and as
per the directive of the Election Commission 101 auxiliary polling booths will be set up wherethe number of voters has exceeded 1400, he informed.

Though 99.76% voters in the district have been issued voters’ identity cards, eligible voters willnot be left out as the booth-level officials will take the necessary steps in this regard. Prakashsaid that those who had completed 18 years as on 1-1-2013 could register their names byapplying in Form 6. Form 8 can be used to rectify the mistake in the name.
