Mangalore : The Janata Dal (Secular) which was riding high on its future prospects and aimed at making it big in the coastal political arena, has suffered a major jolt with its prominent leaders B Nagaraj Shetty, the State Vice President of the party and MG Hegde, State Secretary, tendering their resignation to the primary membership of the party thereby proving that all is not well in the party.
It may be recalled here that the Party’s State President HD Kumaraswamy had recently suspended district leaders Shashidhar Shetty Kavoor and DM Aslam following a recent scuffle at a party meeting when the two had openly aired their resentment against party’s district chief MB Sadashiva and had demanded his resignation.
Consequent upon this development, both Nagaraj Shetty and MG Hegde had urged the party leadership to revoke the suspension order and replace the district chief of the party. They had also threatened to resign otherwise.
Kumaraswamy though had revoked the suspension order, had failed to initiate action against the district president of the party forcing Hegde and Shetty to quit.
Speaking to the media, Nagaraj Shetty said the state leadership was not interested in replacing the district president despite him not initiating any step towards strengthening the party organization. He said he was yet to decide on his next political move and added he would take a decision shortly.
Meanwhile, MG Hegde said the decision of the state leadership to continue the present incumbent as district chief was not in the better interests of the party. We have taken this decision with pain. “Though I have plans to join the Congress, a decision is yet to be taken,” Hegde said.
