DK banks asked to increase credit deposit ratio

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district Lead Bank Manager Francis Borgia asked all the banks to increase the Credit Deposit (CD) ratio by adopting different strategies, on Thursday, December 20.

While reviewing the banking development of Dakshina Kannada district at the Nethravathi auditorium of Zilla Panchayath office, Francis said, “Those banks which have more number of branches should increase their lending activities and encourage people to deposit. As farmers in Dakshina Kannada district are engaged in cultivating commercial crops, banks can give loans round the year”, he said.

Informing about the banking activities in DK district, Francis said, “The total number of branches in Dakshina Kannada district is 645. Total business at the end of 30 September 2018 stood at Rs 70062.78 Crore translating into a growth of 12.48%. The deposits stood at Rs 43288.75 Crore indicating a growth of 8.53% and the advances stood at Rs 26550.56 Crore”, he informed.

Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada district Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Selvamani launched the Potential Linked Credit Plan (PLP) prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for Dakshina Kannada district for the year 2019-20. Assistant General Manager (District Development) NABARD made a brief presentation on the potential available for bank credit under various priority sector activities for DK district. He also highlighted various enabling factors under each category of the priority sector and requested the bankers to leverage on those factors to improve their lending portfolio.
