Deralakatte blackmail case: three accused denied bail

Mangaluru: The Sixth Additional District and Sessions Court on Friday denied bail to three accused in the Deralakatte kidnap and blackmail case.

The accused are Sharfan Husain (21) of Deralakatte, Shamir (21) of Deralakatte and Nawaz (28) of Mudipu.

Earlier in March, Mangaluru City Police had submitted the charge-sheet on the case to the court. The charge-sheet, had more than 554 pages including Forensic reports on video and audio seized from the accused and the Identification parade details.
 
Besides, the eight accused identified in the charge-sheet were Shamsuddin (23) of Surathkal, Shamir (21) of Deralakatte, Iqbal (23) of Deralakatte, Rauf (22) of Deralakatte, Nawaz (28) of Mudipu, Nisar (18) of Manjanady, Harshad (28) of Deralakatte, and Sharfan Husain (21) of Deralakatte. Earlier, Iqbal was also denied bail.

According to the charge-sheet filed by the police, the accused had formed a gang and was planning to carry out such acts to extort money. The cases in the chargesheet on the accused include gang rape, blackmail, outraging the modesty of a woman, extortion, destruction of evidence and some provisions of IT act for recording the act on the mobile.

On December 18 at 11pm, the gang found two students near the Meeting Point Bar and Restaurant at Deralakatte. The accused allegedly abused the students and forcibly took them to a desolate house. Here, the accused directed the students to indulge in sexual act. When they refused, they were threatened with life. The gang later filmed their sexual act performed under duress using their mobile phones.
