Deputy Lokayukta settles over 100 cases in city

Mangalore: Over one hundred  cases of public grievances were settled during a  grievance redressal meet  held at the Town hall in the city on Saturday June 7  in the presence of Subhash B Adi, Deputy Lokayukta.

Speaking to reporters after meet, the Deputy Lokayukta said a total of 119 cases were settled and the grievances came from people residing in Mangalore and Bantwal taluks. Of the total cases settled, 40 were filed on the day of the hearing itself.

The Deputy Lokayukta said he had received complaints regarding  encroachment of parking lots for construction of buildings and violation of construction bye-laws. One of the complaints was by Hanumanth Kamath of Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike regarding the inaction of the local administrative body  towards violation of construction rules.

Ajith Kumar Hegde, MCC Commissioner who was present said the Corporation would take all possible steps to ensure that parking slots are not used for construction or establishment of shops.

The Deputy Lokayukta instructed the MCC officials to visit such places where builders have violated rules.
Subhash Adi said of the  15000 complaints filed with the Lokayukta across the state, 11,000 were redressed and assured that the remaining cases will be settled within the next six months.

The Lokayukta also received complaints regarding land disputes,  police apathy  with regard to some cases etc.

Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni and others were present.
