Kasargod: A farmer committed suicide hanging from a tree in the land he cultivated on Saturday, April 9.

Koragappa Bhandary (47) from Kambaru Bedradka is the deceased.

Koragappa had taken five acres of land on lease as he didn’t own any land. He grew paddy and several other vegetables. An unexpected rain in November last year washed away the crops he had grown. A loan of Rs 10 lakh, scarcity of labour and incessant rains increased is loss.

He wrote to the state government and ran pillar to post requesting for help, but didn’t receive any. Buckling under circumstances, he decided to end his life.

He was the sole earner of his family and was feeding them from the earnings of agriculture. He has left behind a suicide note in which requested the government to protect his wife and children.

Vidyanagar police have registered a case.
