Kokkada: Fifteen year old Prathima who was one of the thousands of people affected by the deadly pesticide Endosulfan, passed away at her residence at Hosthota in Hattadka village near here on January 2, Thursday. She was the daughter of Prabhaker Joshi.

Prathima was  mentally  and physically challenged by birth. Every day, her family used to bring her to the Day Care Centre for Endosulfan affected people, which has been opened at Kokkada. Despite suffering from 75 per cent deformities, she was even deprived of the Rs 50,000 compensation package provided by the government and was entitled for just Rs 1000 monthly pension. Her parents despite their abject poverty had even spent lakhs towards her treatment.
