Mangaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) and Minister of Higher Education Dr CN Ashwathnarayan inaugurated the newly-constructed, ultra-modern Operation Theatre (OT) at the Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre, Natekal on Friday, October 25.
Dr Ashwathnarayan was very impressed with the warmth that he was greeted with at the Kanachur Hospital. On inaugurating the Operation Theatre on the eighth floor of the hospital, he was impressed with the facility and the vision of the hospital’s founder UK Monu.
The inaugural ceremony began with an invocation from second-year MBBS student Mainaz. MLA UT Khader, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Chairman UK Monu, Director Abdul Rahiman, DCI Executive Council Member Dr Jayakar Shetty, Namma TV Director Dr Shiv Sharan Shetty, Medical Superintendent Dr KG Kiran, and Zilla Panchayat President Sathish Kumpala were present on the dais.
Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre Chief Administrative Officer Dr Rohan Monis welcomed the gathering. Dr Monis also briefed the audience about the key highlights of the Kanachur Institute campus which was established five years ago. The institute has over five healthcare programmes and nearly 1,200 students are currently enrolled in medical and paramedical courses there. Affiliated to the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (Bengaluru), the institute also has much more plans in the pipeline.
After being felicitated by the dignitaries on the dais, Dr Ashwathnarayan spoke of the humility of the Founder Chairman UK Monu. He expressed his solidarity and cooperation from the state government regarding the advancement of medical courses and programmes.
An alumnus of Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Dr Ashwathnarayan took notice of his teachers amidst the gathering, particularly KIMS Physiology Department HOD Dr Udayshanker Shet, Biochemistry Department HOD Dr Vivian D’Souza.
Afterwards, KIMS Chairman UK Monu was felicitated by MLA UT Khader and Dental Council of India Executive Member Dr Jayakar Shetty.
Addressing the gathering, UT Khader said, “I appreciate the efforts of educationalists like Haji UK Monu who believe in giving back to the society, thereby making the community a better place. Healthcare has been a need of the region and it is encouraging to see such efforts.”
Khader concluded by saying that traffic snarls in the region must be addressed and that road repair work will be taken on a war-footing.
In his address, UK Monu thanked the DCM for accepting his invitation and inaugurating the newly-stationed Operating Theatre Complex.
